As promised, here is my summary of what I read in 2010. Surprisingly, I read 84 books in 2010 (if you had asked me, I would have said I read roughly a book a week and given you a figure of ’about 52′). 58 of these are reviewed on my blog, which I started in June. Thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement!
I’m going to list my favourites month by month (I can’t pick an overall favourite:
January: The Story of Danny Dunn by Bryce Courtenay
February: Sesame Street: A Celebration of 40 Years of Life on the Street by Louise A. Gikow (Nothing fiction grabbed me this month)
March: Cold Spring Harbor by Richard Yates
April: The Girl Who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson
May: Old Sins by Penny Vincenzi
June: The Help by Kathryn Stockett
July: On the Edge: My Story by Richard and Mindy Hammond
August: Holding the Man by Timothy Conigrave
September: Campaign Ruby by Jessica Rudd
October: Trust Me, I’m a Junior Doctor by Max Pemberton
November: A Dangerous Fortune by Ken Follett (ebook)
December: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
Completely underwhelming books:
- Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger
- A Song in the Daylight by Paullina Simons
- The Second Last Woman in England by Maggie Joel
- The Carrie Diaries by Candace Bushnell (ebook)
- Last Night at Chateau Marmont by Lauren Weisberger
Since I started blogging, people have been most interested in my Sony eReader (top post and top search term)! Stay tuned for more in 2011 – there is a scary new trend out there – the online ebook buying binge (very easy to hide)!

The Shadow of the Wind is also one of my favorite books! I’m so glad to read that you liked it!
I look forward to blogging in 2011 with you and reading all of your posts!
Wow 84 great effort! Great idea for a post picking favourites by month, it’s so hard to choose otherwise. Of these I’ve only read The Help, so there are plenty that I should check out on your list! Agree about Her Fearful Symmetry, I couldn’t get past the first few chapters.
I was just being lazy – thought it was easier to try and break it down by month! Some months were difficult though as I read either a lot of good books or not many.
Her Fearful Symmetry has tainted me – when I see new books by authors who had a great debut, I’m a bit more wary now (eg. Kim Edwards’ new book).
Wonderful list
You have a few of my favorites on there, and some I’ve never heard about before.
Ha I like your list of ‘underwhelming books’ – I have taken note!
That was a great reading year for you, congrats!
I tried and failed with Her Fearful Symmetry, couldn’t get into it as I basically hated the twins. Have agreat 2011!

The Shadow of the Wind is one of my favourite books ever! And The Help made my list this year.
I am a bit disappointed to see the Paullina Simons on your list. She is one of my favourite authors. Having said that, I haven’t been inspired to even open the book so you are much further advanced than I am.
I loved The Bronze Horseman series and Tully with a fierce passion (read Tully on a plane and didn’t want to get off – novelty for me!) and this just disappointed me, especially the part set in Australia. I thought the main character was spoiled and selfish. She was very difficult to like.
