Another week, another mailbox. Will I ever learn? All my books this week were from one of those shopping centre stands that sell all books for $5. I can’t resist them! I bought:
My Story – Dannii Minogue
I grew up with her and Kylie (not literally, as in I loved Dannii’s music when I was about 8)
Handling Edna – Barry Humphries
If anyone knows the Dame well, it’s Barry.
Save Me the Waltz – Zelda Fitzgerald Her only published novel.
Anita Shreve – A Change in Altitude I didn’t really like Body Surfing, but many others love her, so I thought I should give her another go.
All for $20! Some are to read on the commute (Dannii and Edna), others are to snuggle up at home with.
Do you like autobiographies? Or do you prefer fiction?
Sam, you had a good week in book. Hope u enjoy them. I’ll be posting my loot tomorrow.
Thank you! I’ve been rather naughty in book buying lately!
I bet Handling Edna is great! Enjoy your new books!
Thank you, Edna is certainly a handful!
Handling Edna should be a fun read. I hope you enjoy all our bargains.
It is fun, very nostalgic and Melbourne-centred at the moment!
Anita Shreve has written some books that I really enjoyed. Enjoy all your new books!
Thank you, haven’t got to hers yet, maybe closer to summer…
Always hard to resist a good bargain. Have a great week, Sam, and enjoy your new books!
Thank you, hope you’ve had a good reading week. I’m waiting impatiently for my copy of 1Q84 to arrive!
Good haul. I love those vintage covers. I can walk by any display without buying one. I have always meant to try Anita Shreve. Heard lots of good things about her. Enjoy.
PS I grew up with music by Kylie and Danni too. My room was once covered in Kylie and Jason posters.
I still know all the words to Especially for You! That’s pretty sad…must keep a lookout for Jason’s autobiography…
Those biographies look great! I am looking forward to your thoughts on them 🙂
They’re very good, already powering through them!
Looks like you got a great deal! I love Anita Shreve, but haven’t read that one yet. Happy reading!
Thank you, currently looking to find out where more of these stalls are!
I love so many of Anita Shreve’s books but I haven’t read A Change in Altitude yet although I have it here somewhere and I’m seriously intrigued by Save Me the Waltz…looking forward to your thoughts on this one.
Enjoy the Dame and Danni’s book…I’m not too familiar with either person but it sounds like you will enjoy these books. I hope so!
Happy reading!
They’re both Aussie icons, probably not that well known outside Australia and maybe the UK. Dannii’s book was a good trip down memory lane back to my primary school years.
They all look good – and what a great price!
I plan to stalk some more shopping centres for these stalls – every one has something different!
Handling Edna has got to be a fun read. I’ve read a lot of Anita Shreve and I liked her earlier books the best. Haven’t read Change in Altitude yet.
It’s certainly a pretty book – pink and purple. It’s an interesting take, Barry as Edna’s manager.
I’m digging the Anita Shreve book. I love memoirs but don’t really like autobiographies.
I have read a couple of Anita Shreve’s books and enjoyed them. I will be interested to hear what you think of the two autobiographies.
Have you? Which ones? Dannii was pretty good, Handling Edna is interesting.
Autobiographies can be a bit rose tinted at times I think, especially when the author has been involved in some big arguments!
Lots of good books this week 🙂
I didn’t know that Zelda had published a novel.
As for your question, I read much more fiction than biography, but I do read bios on occasion, although very rarely autobigographies.
I’m still much more of a fiction girl too…but my tastes are changing a bit as I get older (and it’s certainly not that I’m running out of books to read!)
