Mailbox Monday 12/11/12

You know it’s getting close to the holidays when the shops are packed by 9:30am and your inbox and letterbox are full of catalogues encouraging you to spend, spend, spend! Fortunately I’ve had a taste of what’s to come in 2013 and I can tell you there are some absolute winners in the book department (more later). Despite the catalogues, I was quite restrained this week (although I did write a book wish list for my family)! I’m sure that will change when I get a look at the other mailboxes this week, hosted by (I think) the lovely Bermuda Onion and started by Marcia.

Thanks to Allen and Unwin and The Reading Room, I received a copy of Mrs Queen Takes the Train by William Kuhn. Can’t wait to read this (especially as Australia has hosted some royal visitors lately). I love the idea of the Queen just running away from the whole royal life. Taking the train, I don’t think it would be number one on my list of things to do, but perhaps it’s a nice train like the one that goes across the Rockies in Canada…

 

I also got my new release paperback of the latest Morland Dynasty #34, The Winding Road by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. I’m a big fan of this series, covering English history through the eyes of a York family. We are up to the 1920s now. It’s taken years of searching and collecting across the world to get to up to speed with this series as they’re quite difficult to find in Australia. (I bought this from the Book Depository, complete with bookmark).

And to round off the weekend, a gratuitous magazine purchase (In Style UK). I generally buy the overseas editions because a) it’s more difficult to buy the clothes and accessories and b) I just like the content better. I want that dress!
