It seemed like not so long ago that I was complaining of the heat as I wrote. Now I’m in layers, the noise of the keyboard muffled by my beanie and sleeves pulled down to my fingers. Winter is finally here!

I didn’t receive any books in the mail last week. I didn’t buy any and haven’t requested many of late (plus, more publishers are moving to ebooks). I did get to the shops though! The local shopping centre (mall) was having a four day promotion, with 40% off a full priced book at Dymocks. I chose Under the Jewelled Sky by Alison McQueen, about a woman returning to India in the 1950s. The book also came with a free copy of her first book, The Secret Children (about two young girls during Indian independence).
I also bought a couple more ebooks as I had some Kobo coupons. They were The Unpierced Heart (also known as The Whores’ Asylum) by Katy Darby, set in the Victorian era as two men offer sanctuary to London’s prostitutes with devastating events unfolding. I also bought All the Beggars Riding by Lucy Caldwell
after reading a blogger’s review (I’m sorry but I can’t remember who!). This is about confronting the past as time is running out.

The Unpierced Heart reminds me a bit of The Scarlett Feather and The White (now I’m questioning if I’ve remembered the title properly) in that it was a prostitute in Victorian times…anyway, I mean to say that that book intrigues me from your post. Thanks for sharing!
Oh for crying out loud, the book I was thinking of is The Crimson Petal
and The White! What an idiot! 🙂

All of your authors this week are new to me, however I have added both ‘The Unpierced Heart’ and ‘All The Beggars Riding’ to my list, as they sound right up my street. It also seems to be a co-incidence that both of the books respective authors, have written plays, before turning to fiction writing.

Summer has well and truly arrived, here in the UK and temperatures are on the rise. I have to be honest though, even if you do think me rather strange, and say that this is not my favourite time of year. Spring and Autumn I can cope with, but the excessive Summer sun and heat really isn’t my best friend!

Have just finished “Rosie Project” What a delight it was. Light reading perhaps with maybe a message hidden in the clever plot. Thanks for the recommendation .
I’m kinda glad more publishers are moving to eBooks because I don’t like reading eGalleys very much. Which helps curb my ARC addiction that I’ve been trying to conquer lately. I have been a very good girl with the review requests lately, I hope I can keep it up 😉
