Mailbox Monday 8/7/13

I write to you this week, freezing with cold and seriously contemplating getting out the gloves and the ear muffs! It’s cold! Lucky that I’m on holidays so I can sleep in and read! Due to the new Kindle, I went a bit crazy on Net Galley. But first, what actually came via traditional parcel post (still the most exciting)!

I won a copy of Kiss Me First by Lottie Moggach (daughter of Deborah Moggach, who wrote the brilliantly funny book The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – review soon of that). This is a modern book about trading identities and things going wrong. Looks awesome! Thanks Pan Macmillan.

I also received a copy of Sketcher by Roland Watson-Grant from Bloomsbury Sydney. Set on the swampy edges of New Orleans, the book follows Skid and his brother Frico as they try to fix things for the better. Thank you!

I also made a Bookworld order after receiving a 40% discount coupon in their end of financial year sale. Pretty much a licence to go crazy, this is what I have received so far (other books are coming in from overseas). Peter Ackroyd’s London Under is looking at what’s under London streets, while Amity & Sorrow by Peggy Riley found its way to my wishlist after reading several blogger reviews. My interest in Lezanne Clannachan’s Jellybirdwas the result of Reading Matters’ review.

Finally, the egalleys. I went rather mad because a) I could; b) so much good stuff available and c) working on a project for August (again, more later). One thing I did learn was not to request galleys that expire at the end of the month because by the time you’re approved, the galley has been archived! Click on any of the images below and you’ll be taken to the webpage for that book.

From Random House Australia, I received:

From Penguin Australia, I received:

From Destiny Romance (part of Penguin Australia), I received:

From Escape Publishing (part of Harlequin Australia), I received:

From Random House UK, I received:

Finally, I received from Faber and Faber:

Phew! It’s probably a good time to mention that I read four books last week! Please do visit Tasha at Book Obsessed, our host for July. Mailbox Monday, started by Marcia, is the place to come and share your recent book acquisitions and walk away with a huge wish list!

  1. Netgalley is lethal isn’t it? I’ve really had to curb hanging around there until I make a bigger dnt in the book I already have but still…..

  2. Ooh, I am so envious of your Nicci French book! I love the Frieda Klein series. Enjoy! And I see some other books that are new to me, but look so tempting. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.

  3. Have fun reading all the galleys and hope yon warm up soon! I hate it when the egalleys expire too and I haven’tg read them. I rarely read online!

  4. Nice week. I laughed at going mad with the eGalleys. I’m always tempted but I know I can’t read more than two books a week. I really want to read Waiting for Wednesday but I can’t get approved for an egalley. Apparently the book is not being published in the US until 2014. Bummer.

  5. Hi Sam,

Summer has finally arrived here in the UK, but it has done so with avengeace, as the temperatures climbed to over 30 degrees over the weekend and looks set to stay that way all week. Personally, I much prefer colder more temperate weather conditions, my body and mind just don’t function in the extreme heat.

Now I see what you meant when you commented on my site that NetGalley is addictive! You have a fantastic haul of books this week, however the ones which caught my eye are the Nikki French and the Jane Casey, nothing better than a good mystery / thriller!

Enjoy all your books and have a great week,

    Yvonne
