Last week passed by very quickly, but there was one constant – the rain. It seems to be wet all the time at the moment and even I’m sick of it! I did have some joy from the letter box though – a nice combination of surprises and books I’d been expected.
The first two books were books I’d bought from Readings (an Australian group of bookstores, based in Melbourne). I’d read Reading Matters’ list of books to keep readers occupied while she’s on a break – these books sounded great, so I bought a couple. The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit by Sloan Wilson sounds a bit Mad Men and Richard Yates like. It’s the story of a couple in a 1950s rat race and how it turns into a ‘voyage of self-discovery’ for protagonist Tom. Barbara Demick’s Nothing to Envy: Love, Life and Death in North Korea
is an intriguing non-fiction look at life for the everyday person in North Korea.
The next book was a surprise from Simon & Schuster– a copy of Rich Kids of Instagram by The Creator of Rich Kids of Instagram and with Maya Sloan. It also showed me that I’m getting old, as I really didn’t know much about the RKOI before looking at the book and doing some Googling! This book is about a major party being held that the RKOI will do anything to be invited to. Sounds kind of Gossip Girl meets Gatsby to me!
Caroline Kepnes’ You first came to my attention on Twitter and Anna was very kind to send me her copy (it’s released in September in Australia). It’s a romantic thriller and the first pages sent a shiver down my spine – it’s going to be a creepily compulsive read.
Finally, I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Alli Sinclair’s Luna Tango from The Reading Room and Harlequin (which is funny, because I had it on my list of books to buy in August!) This is the first book in the Dance Card series and revolves around tango, family secrets and passion between Dani and Carlos.
What did you receive/buy over the last week?

Ooh Luna Tango looks good! YOU caught my eye too. Happy reading!
Some great books here! Nothing to Envy is supposed to be very good.
These sound great Sam, especially The man in the Grey Flannel Suit.
Nothing to Envy sounds fascinating to me!
YOU is the one that catches my eye. Enjoy!
You and Luna Tango both sound great.
Love the look and sound of You…thrillers are my cup of tea…LOL. I love Richard Yates, so I’m going to check out The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
All new to me. Great mailbox. Enjoy!
You sounds quite creepy – I want to read it! I’ve never heard of Rich Kids of Instagram either, but I have an excuse, I am old!
I am currently reading Nothing to Envy and it is very eye opening. It is very well written. I generally don’t get on well with non fiction books but this reads more like a novel. I think it’s because it weaves in facts and history with the real life stories of the people who live there.
Very interesting mailbox. I don’t know any of these books, but I do remember something like Mary remembers about the Man In The Gray Flannel Suit. 🙂
Luna Tango is catching my eye. Awesome title and cover.
ENJOY all your books and your reading week.
