It’s National Bookshop Day!

Today is National Bookshop Day in Australia, an opportunity to celebrate your local bookshop or even go on a road trip to visit several!

Last year, I was in Melbourne for it and it was awesome. People dressed as book characters, author readings and signings and story time for the kids – it was a wonderful atmosphere. This year I’m going to do the rounds of my local stores and buy a book or three based on the recommendations of others, be they staff or fellow customers.

In Perth, here’s just a brief selection of the events happening:

Bookcaffe is having story time, a free coffee with purchase and a raffle ticket if you spend more than $100.

At Beaufort Street Books, you can meet author Robin Baker or join in with colouring giant wallpaper while you munch on a cake or two.

At Dymocks Garden City, you can meet author Rachael Johns from 1pm (regular readers will know that I LOVE her books!)

Check out the National Bookshop Day Facebook page for more or follow the hashtags #loveyourbookshop, #bookshopcrawl or the account @natbookshopday on Twitter for what’s happening locally. And if you’re not in Australia, why not join in the fun and celebrate with us?
