I read two books last week, which I was really pleased about. But what I was delighted to find was not one, but four book parcels on Friday! Getting so many all at once made my day special – thanks to Hachette, Pan Macmillan, Inside History and Allen & Unwin for the bookish goodness!
(That was the last of the sunshine above). Maternity Leave by Julie Halpern is about Annie, a teacher on maternity leave. It’s going to be bliss, right? Nope, life has completely and utterly changed but she’s determined to make it for the better. This sounds really funny (but I don’t think I’ll mention it to my friend who is having a baby soon!). It’s out in Australia in June from Pan Macmillan.
The Flying Kangaroo by Jim Eames is the story of Qantas as you’ve never heard it before. Considering I spent the morning on the roof of a car watching for the Antonov 225, I’d say that this is a pretty good fit. Looking forward to reading about the special demands of those VIPs. Thanks to Inside History and Allen & Unwin for the prize.
Do you recognise the cover of the bottom left book? It’s The City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin and is the last in the trilogy that began with The Passage and followed by The Twelve. After the world has changed forever, the survivor are ready to start anew. But the Father of the Twelve is waiting for them, particularly Amy… Thanks Hachette for the ARC – it’s released on 24th May.
The Summon Stone by Ian Irvine is the first in a new fantasy series. The Merdrun are gathering as the summon stone is waking and if it’s not destroyed the Merdrun will come through. To save their daughter, Karan and Llian must to do with the help of two others. This looks exciting, thanks Hachette!
If you want to check other bookshelves, do drop by the Mailbox Monday blog for links to everyone’s mailbox goodies. Overseen by Vicki (I’d Rather Be at the Beach), Leslie (Under My Apple Tree) and Serena (Savvy Verse & Wit), I’m sure you’ll find many books for the wish list!
It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by Book Date and formerly by Book Journey and J Kaye. Click on the pictures to read more about the books.

I’m spoilt for choice – no idea!
I have been looking for a good fantasy series to start and The Summon Stone sounds like it might be worth a shot. Have a great book week!!
Four books delivered before a weekend, that sounds perfect. I love the sound of the maternity leave one and The Flying Kangaroo. Have a pleasant week.
Oh, the Flying Kangaroo sounds interesting!! My father is quite a plane nut, so I grew up sitting at airport runways watching planes come and go. 🙂
Your books look lovely in the sunshine. Maternity Leave sounds good to me. Enjoy!
Oh nice to get books in the post! I want to try the nurse series. I wish I didn’t have so much waiting for me to read. I have it marked though!
It was like Christmas on Friday! That feeling of receiving books never gets old 🙂 Have a great week!
I still haven’t gotten around to The Passage, and Cronin lives in my part of the world. I was afraid it was too scary.
