I hope those of you that had a holiday for Easter are having a nice break. Me, I’m just happy that I had two days off in a row! I didn’t get to the shops because of work, but I did receive some lovely books:
Talk of the Town by Rachael Johns (out May) is her latest rural fiction book (thanks to Harlequin for the copy). It’s set in dairy farming country, where Lawson Cooper-Jones leads a fairly solitary life with son Ned after the death of his wife. But when they get a flat tyre in a ghost town, Lawson is surprised to find that there’s a woman living in the abandoned general store. Why does Meg live there and how can Lawson help find out the town’s past? Just as their friendship turns to something stronger, a meddling local scorches the idea. I’m really looking forward to this, because Rachael is an awesome writer and I get to speak a little at the book launch next month!
Storyland by Catherine McKinnon came from Harper Collins. It’s a story set in Australia across multiple time periods from 1796 to 2033 with multiple narrators. How are they all linked together? It’s a beautifully presented book and one I think I’ll dip into next.
Miss Lily’s Lovely Ladies by Jackie French was a surprise present. It’s based on a true story, of an exclusive finishing school in England. But with World War I on the way, Miss Lily’s students need to forget what they’ve learned and muck in to help. Except Sophie, whose skills may be of a great asset…

I’m back from my trip. It didn’t turned out as planned but we had fun. Come see what we did and what I read.
Hope you had a good weekend! That book on avian intelligence looks interesting to me, and Miss Lily’s sounds fun (reminds me of School for Unusual Girls, although that one is Regency and more YA looks like) but similar premises.

How wonderful that you get to speak at the book launch. I really enjoyed the book, she is a great writer and now an automatic read for me for anything she writes. I loved the ghost and would have loved just a tad more!!
I’m looking forward to reading Rachael John’s latest book. I read that the man on the front of her new book actually works at Harlequin. I love that idea.

I didn’t get a long weekend because the library is still open on Saturday and Sunday, but at least I got Friday and Monday off, which means plenty of time for reading!! 🙂
