What a weekend for those of us who follow AFL (Aussie Rules football)! My team, the West Coast Eagles, was the victor in a thriller of a match that resulted in extra time, with the Eagles kicking the winning goal after the extra time siren. Needless to say, all plans to finish my book on Saturday went out the window! Maybe today.
I received one book in the mail last week and bought a few:
The Baby Doctor by Fiona McArthur is about Sienna, an obstetrician we met in Red Sand Sunrise. She’s been sent to a tiny rural town in Australia to investigate a medical mystery. But it’s more than that as the women have troubles to hide. As friendships grow, can the women overcome the odds? The novel is released 2nd October by Penguin and if you look at the back cover, you might see a familiar blog name… J
Game Day by Miriam Sved is an Australian novel, centred around Australian Rules football (very appropriate for finals time!). Mick and Jake are in their first AFL season but they have no idea what they’re in for – the battles, victories and passion of the game.
The First Bad Man by Miranda July is about Cheryl, eccentric and disordered. But when her boss asks if her 21 year old daughter Clee can move in with Cheryl, her world explodes. But it may just turn out for the better…
The Golden Age by Joan London is set locally in Western Australia in the 1950s in a children’s polio convalescent home. Frank and Elsa form a strong bond in their small world as they learn truths of the larger world outside.
If you want to look at other books received this week across the globe, drop by the Mailbox Monday blog for links to everyone’s mailbox goodies.
