Mailbox Monday and What I’m Reading: 1/1/18

Happy New Year! I hope that 2018 brings good tidings on and off the bookish front. I’m sharing with you today the books I received for Christmas – the fiction selection. Not too many this year but that’s okay because it just means I’ll have room for 2018 new releases! I’ve read two already:

A Column of Fire by Ken Follett follows on from The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. It’s also just over 750 pages! It begins in 1558 as Elizabeth Tudor becomes Queen and reflects the changes in the country, seen through the eyes of Ned Willard.

District Nurse On Call by Donna Douglas is the second book in the Steeple Street series. Agnes will be the first district nurse in Bowden, West Yorkshire but she’s treated with suspicion by the locals. They feel she’s just another servant of the local mine owners, but when the General Strike hits, the village will feel it harshly.

The Nightingale Christmas Show by Donna Douglas follows the first post-WWII Christmas at the Nightingale Hospital. We return to some familiar faces and meet some new ones as the hospital struggles to return to normal.

Deep by Kylie Scott is the fourth (and last) book in the Stage Dive series. When Lizzy finds out she’s pregnant, she and bass player Ben have to reveal that one night in Vegas came away with something extra. It puts a strain on the band, but Lizzy is determined to do her very best on her own because she knows Ben isn’t a long term relationship man.

  1. I read the first two books in the Follett series so I’ll probably read A Column of Fire at some point. Hope you love it and all of your new books. Happy New Year!

  2. These books look good although I tend to steer away from longer (over 450pgs) books. I’m sure I am missing some good ones because of that.
I hope 2018 is a wonderful year for you in life and reading!

I enjoy reading your comments! Thanks for stopping by.
