Mailbox Monday and What I’m Reading: 26/3/18

Last week was a mixed bag. The weather ranged from hot to cold and sunny to cloudy and other things were just as mercurial. I did get some shopping done – the stores seem to be in full swing after loads of summer sales – which you can see some of the results of below. I also received one book in the mail, thanks to Harlequin.

The Secrets We Keep by Shirley Patton arrived from Harlequin. It’s set in the West Australian mining town of Kalgoorlie and focuses on new arrival Aimee, a social worker. As Aimee settles into her new life, she realises that her own secret is linked to the town. Can she share the truth, even if it involves others? This looks very intriguing…

The Last Romeo by Justin Myers looked loads of fun, so I bought it. James is alone in London and decides to start online dating after being encouraged by a friend. He blogs it all, but a wild night with an Olympian goes viral and James is left wondering if in the hunt for Romeo it’s better to leave some things unshared…

I do love a modern day retelling of a classic, and Anna Todd’s The Spring Girls tells the story of Little Women. The four girls live on a military base in New Orleans and each wants something different. Meg wants to be an officer’s wife, Jo wants a career in journalism in New York, Beth won’t leave the house and Amy watches her sisters. What is their mother hiding?

I fell in love with the cover of All the Beautiful Girls by Elizabeth J. Church and was even more pleasantly surprised to find it is set in the showgirl world of fabulous Las Vegas. Ruby Wilde is 1968’s Showgirl of the Year, but it wasn’t always this way. She used to be Lily Decker from Kansas and the shadows of her former life still haunt the edges of her new glamour-filled one. Will she learn the difference between glitter and gold, or will the house win?
