Mailbox Monday and What I’m Reading: 2/7/18

It’s so cold I swear my mouse hand is freezing! I’ll make this brief so I can escape back into the warmth. I hope your week is warmer!

Four books into the house this week, here they are:

On the Right Track by Penelope Janu arrived from Harlequin. I loved In at the Deep End last year, so naturally I’m looking forward to this book with the sunny cover! It’s set in the racing world as Golden Saunders damages her leg and her family is involved in a corruption scandal. When a diplomat from the UN arrives, Golden is having none of it. She doesn’t need or want him, but as she and Tor get pulled deeper into a murky world life will change…

The Summer of Secrets by Barbara Hannay (released 30th July) arrived thanks to Penguin. Another favourite author! This novel is set in far north Queensland (another warm, sunny place) as Chloe ups sticks for a job on a newspaper. But life in a small town has its problems too – the grumpy editor, distraught owner and a missing baker. Secrets abound as the town comes together to open up and hopefully heal…

I love the idea of reading book club reads (and sometimes I really do read them), so I picked up two of Reese Witherspoon’s book club reads. The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo sounds like a fun read as it catches up with two characters, Lucy and Gabe, as they meet. It then follows them for the next thirteen years as they come together and are then torn apart.

Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows by Balli Kaur Jaswal introduces the reader to Nikki, who comes back into the Punjabi community when she teaches a class of elderly women at the local temple. Once the widows begin to speak, they discuss all kinds of stories – some dark. But the class will come under suspicion of those who police the temple, putting them all in danger…

  2. Strange to think of you being cold while we are all battling heat here in the States.

The Peacock Summer has a particularly lovely cover.
