Spring has sprung, which is great but it also means the footy season is drawing to a close. But then again, September to December in Australia are peak times for new release books! I did manage to finish a book last week and I’m really enjoying the new Kate Morton. Here’s what arrived in the mail (I didn’t get to the bookshop last week – footy to watch!):
Younger by Pamela Redmond Satran was a prize from Kathryn at Book Date. I recently started to watch the series, but didn’t finish the DVD by the time I had to return it. I was very pleased that the show is based on a book! It’s about Alice (Liza in the show) who is newly single with a grownup daughter. After a (much) younger guy hits on her in a bar, she decides to keep going in the same vein to get her first job for years. Will anyone find out her real age? Many thanks to Kathryn for letting me pick this!
Love is Blind by William Boyd (available 1st October) arrived from Penguin. It’s historical fiction, following the life of young Scottish musician Brodie. He leaves his home town only to start an affair with Lika, a beautiful Russian soprano. But things start to get dangerous, and his love for Lika will see Brodie pursued across Europe.
The Survivors by Kate Furnivall (also available 1st October) arrived from Simon & Schuster. It opens at the end of World War II as Klara and her daughter are in a displaced persons camp in Germany. Now the war is over, it’s time to find a way back home. But then Klara sees a man she knows at the camp, who knows what she did to save her daughter. She knows who he really is. What will it take to maintain silence and escape the camp?
