A topsy turvy week in terms of weather, from winter to summer with bushfires around a lot of Australia. Today is also Remembrance Day, to remember the fallen and those who fought for our freedom.
Book wise, it was a good week, especially as I’ve been too busy to get out…now, I don’t need to!
(it’s gloomy and damp today, so inside pictures will have to suffice).
Riverstone Ridge by Mandy Magro arrived thank to Harlequin. Nina has returned to Huntingvale to try to sell the family home, only to find that her adoptive mother has secrets to share in letters left to Nina. For Logan, Nina’s return gives him the chance to start living again. But mysterious accidents start to occur and it seems the past is trying to tell them both something.
The Price of Fortune by Damon Kitney is a biography of James Packer, one of Australia’s richest men born into a media dynasty (but who still enjoys Twisties). Thanks to Harper Collins for the prize of the Walkley Award longlisted book.
Banking Bad by Adele Ferguson was also from Harper Collins and on the Walkley Award longlist. It’s the story of the Royal Commission into the Australian banking system, which exposed a lot of flaws in the system (like charging dead people for financial advice). It’s also signed by the major players, which is very cool!
Island on the Edge of the World by Deborah Rodriguez came from Penguin. It’s set in Haiti and four women have their own problems, but coming together will help them all.
The Siberian Dilemma by Martin Cruz Smith arrived from Simon & Schuster. Tatiana has disappeared but Arkady Renko is the only one who is worried. Under the guise of work, he goes to Siberia to find her but it won’t be easy…
The Clergyman’s Wife by Molly Greeley (available 3rd December, RRP $29.99) was from Allen & Unwin. It’s the story of Charlotte Collins after her marriage (yes, Lizzy’s friend in Pride and Prejudice). She chose this life which is respective but not exciting, until she meets Mr Travis.
