Mailbox Monday and What I’m Reading: 17/2/20

I’m planning on a quiet one this week – looking below, you might be able to guess why! So many great books…one a day for the working week!

Just an Ordinary Family by Fiona Lowe arrived from Harlequin (available 24th February). Twins Libby and Alice have their own problems – Alice is going through a tough time while it looks like Libby has it all. But betrayal changes everything…how will the twins, their mother and Libby’s best friend Jess deal with the fallout?

Anna K by Jenny Lee clearly wins the best-looking ARC ever award (thanks Penguin!). Described as Gossip Girl meets Crazy Rich Asians, this is a modern retelling of Anna Karenina set in New York. Anna K is the perfect everything, but meeting Alexi randomly changes everything. She should avoid him, but fate isn’t helping her with that. It’s available 17th March.

Trust Exercise by Susan Choi (available now in hardcover $29.99 AUD, paperback available March $19.99) came from Allen & Unwin. This book won the 2019 National Book Award for Fiction and is set in both the current day and the high school years of Sarah and David. The pair are in love, but their drama instructor sets them up in a world of their own, which is great until the bubble bursts. The truth is revealed years later, but the consequences linger.

The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare (released 25th February) arrived from Hachette. Adunni just wants an education but instead she is sold as a wife, then later becomes a servant to a wealthy household. Nobody will discuss what happened to Rebecca, the previous servant, but Adunni will find out and speak the truth for Rebecca, herself and other girls.

The Rearranged Life of Oona Lockhart by Margarita Montimore (also released 25th February and also from Hachette) starts in 1982, when Oona turns nineteen. But at midnight, she finds herself 32 years into the future. Every year of Oona’s adult life will be a different age – but how do you handle knowing the future before living it? Does she attempt to change fate or accept her disordered life?
