We’ve been doing our spring cleaning a little early here, despite apparently being in the depths of winter! Stuff is everywhere, including books.
That doesn’t stop me adding to the pile though –
If I Can’t Have You by Charlotte Levin (available 14th July) arrived from Pan Macmillan. Constance develops an infatuation with a colleague, Samuel. When their brief affair ends, love turns into obsession and hate. Sounds great for a winter night!
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson came thanks to Scribe. This is Bryan’s story as founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice defending those in need. One of his first cases was that of a young man, sentenced to death for a crime he insisted he didn’t commit. This case changed his understanding of mercy and justice. (It’s also been made into a film).
East of Eden by John Steinbeck continues my reading journey with this author. It’s set in Salinas Valley, California as two families re-enact (subconsciously) Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel. It’s about love, identity and lack of love (and its consequences).
Evicted by Matthew Desmond is about poverty in America and the people who struggle to keep a roof over their heads.

Spring cleaning is good, no matter what the season is. How wonderful to have books everywhere.
You are very keen to be doing your spring clean already!
I enjoyed Better Luck Next Time, I hope you do too
Wishing you a great reading week
East of Eden – great classic. Happy spring cleaning and reading.
Good book selections. Enjoy!
Wow! I like the sound of all the books on your list! The only one I’ve already read is East of Eden. That’s a good one for the Big Book Summer challenge!
Enjoy your books! I have yet to be brave enough to tackle Steinbeck.
Happy Cleaning, and enjoy your books.
