Mailbox Monday and What I’m Reading: 27/12/21

No post-Christmas edition this week as I am working most of the break. It will appear next week. The posties and delivery drivers were very kind to me in the lead up to Christmas, thank you very, very much to all!

The Gosling Girl by Jacqueline Roy (available 2nd February 2022) arrived from Simon & Schuster. Michelle’s name has been long associated with a horrible crime. Now she’s been released with a new identity, but she soon comes under the gaze of police. But one officer feels the need to protect her…

The Language of Food by Annabel Abbs (available 2nd March 2022) was also thanks to Simon & Schuster. Set in 1800s London, there is a plethora of new ingredients available but nobody knows how to cook with them. Eliza Acton wants to write poetry, but is told by her publisher to write a cookbook instead. With her assistant Ann, she learns to cook and finds a new talent. But Ann finds a secret in Eliza’s past that threatens to destroy their friendship.

Lily Harford’s Last Request by Joanna Buckley (available February 2022) was from Harlequin. Lily knows dementia is catching her up and she wants to end her life. But persuading someone to help her is difficult as it’s illegal. How will her family and friends react?

Clouds on the Horizon by Penelope Janu (available 5th January 2022) also arrived from Harlequin. Phoebe thought she’d saved Sinn’s life in a thunderstorm, but he disagrees. Now he’s in town tracking down an illegal horse racing syndicate and his suspects are rather close to home for Phoebe. Can she help him find the culprits or will their growing romance sweep them both off course?

  1. I love the sound of The Gosling Girl. In fact all the books sound well worth reading. It’s been very hot here and the postal delivery people have been marvellous in the heat.
