Mailbox Monday and What I’m Reading: 14/1/19

This Monday shows what a great week the previous one was! I had some extra time to read, plus I received some fabulous February releases. 2019 is shaping up to be a good year for books.

The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth (available 29th January) is about Lucy and her mother-in-law Diana. They’ve never really got along and now Diana is dead. Everyone in the family has something to hide – possibly including murder. Thanks Pan Macmillan for the copy.

The Lost Girls by Jennifer Spence (released 1st February) arrived from Simon & Schuster. Stella has a mystery to solve about a young woman who disappeared twenty years ago, plus she needs to try to prevent current day disaster. Her family all remember the past very differently and the choices made now are going to affect the future…

Saving You by Charlotte Nash (out 29th January) sounds like loads of fun amongst some tears. Mallory’s ex fails to return their son home after a visit, so Mallory gets on a plane to bring Harry back. But a run in with three escapees from their care home turns into a road trip. Each retiree has reasons for leaving, but along the way the four characters will learn about each other.

The House of Second Chances by Esther Campion (released 12th February) is set in West Cork. A trip home by Aidan’s sister Ellen has her determined to restore their grandmother’s stone cottage. Aidan’s not as keen, especially when Ellen’s friend Colette is sent to help. She makes things complicated, but can Aidan give the house and Colette a second chance?

Australia’s Sweetheart by Michael Adams (available February) is the true story of Mary Maguire, Australian actress and Hollywood star. Mary started in talkies in Australia, before signing to Warner Bros and later moving to London. But what happens as World War II looms is even more fascinating – and real. Thank you to Hachette for these three books.
